Bruce,
I was just perusing the information on the race web site, and I’m wondering if you have more information than the following on the bike rules for the rec division:
Division road bikes may not have aerodynamic aids such as Aero type handlebars, disk or composite wheels or wheel covers.
My new bike has carbon wheels (with 20 spokes). I have another set of wheels that I can use, but the spoke count is less than the carbon wheelset. You mentioned a limitation on spoke count (I think) so before I plan on changing out wheels (which is a bit of a hassle due to some complications with the brake pads) I wanted to confirm that my aluminum wheels will work for the event. I spent a little while trying to figure out if there were more details on this and failed. Any assistance that you can provide is welcome. For reference, below is a link to the carbon wheelset that I’m currently using:

Thanks much,
Kirstin

Kirstin,
The reference to Composite Wheels in the rules refers to solid disc or “tri-spoke” style carbon fiber wheels.
Any commercial spoked rim that would come on a bicycle purchased in a bike store these days would be legal. Most of the high end bikes have pretty nice wheels on them these days.
Furthermore, there is no mention of a spoke-count in the rules.
