A good place to practice where there will be lots of comaradrie and free advice is on Wednesday nights at Blodel-Donovan Park on Lake Whatcom, Bellingham.
Starting on about March 12, there are impromptu races with canoes and kayaks starting at 6:00 pm. After warming up, there is a staggered start, with the slower racers starting first followed by waves of the next faster boats, with the idea that everybody finishes at the same time. There may be 50 boats out there before Ski-to-Sea.
A place to find other races in the area is with the Sound Rowers organization. See www.soundrowers.org for a race schedule. _________________ Larry B |
